Two town employees killed Amtrak train accident

Two Cheraw town employees were killed Monday morning when an Amtrak train collided with their truck.
The accident happened on E. Market Street at about 7:45 a.m.
Barney "Sly" Driggers and Glenn Locklear of the Cheraw Public Works Department were driving a town vehicle when their truck was hit by the train, according to the Cheraw town manager.
Driggers and Locklear were assigned to clear leaves and debris from the streets at the time of the accident.  Both had worked for the town for several years.
There were 244 passengers aboard the Amtrak train, which was traveling to Raleigh and north to Washington DC.  No one on the train was injured.
